Top 4 Dance Styles in the World

Since the dawn of time, humans have used all types of arts as an outlet to express their feelings; and in some cases, it has been the way to preserve cultural history rich in fact and imagination. Regardless of how much I think, I can't see my life or our time as people on this earth without Art. Depending on which part of the globe you find yourself. Art is what truly makes a difference between one culture right next to another while in the same Country.

Before we knew how to read, write or have a structured language, Art was already in our minds and represented by paintings. The earliest drawing documented as far; as 45,500 years ago by Sarah Cascone - "Arnet"

Although music took several thousand years to be recorded. We all know that is has been there also, nearly since the beginning of humans. We are drawn to sound more than we can even perceive; on the day to day basis. Since it affects directly and indirectly our mood, behavior and mind chemistry. That is why we have dedicated an entire field of study called "Neuroscience of Music

Sound, can make us travel in time if necessary. Remember at any point of time listening to a song and immediately being taken back in time to a specific point of your live. While reliving a memory you could even remember and in some cases smells which took place while re-living that memory. With this, I just want to emphasize how deep sound and music are rooted to our brains. Therefore, the sometimes euphoric and uncontrollable need to move and dance comes from.

Now that I have made my point across of the importance of Art and Dance in our lives. Let me introduce what I consider the top 4 dances from around the world. I apologize beforehand that I will not go in depth into each of this rhythms but more so into their robust history. Also, they are not presented in any particular order. Just the way that they are here put together.

Well, Maybe there is a bit of favoritism... (wink, wink). I am going to start with Salsa:

  • "It was primarily developed by Puerto Ricans and Cubans living in New York in the late 1960s and early 1970s. Different regions of Latin America and the United States (including countries in the Caribbean) have distinct salsa styles of their own, such as Cuban, Puerto Rican, Colombian, and New York styles."

Our Next Stop is Ballet or like I like to call it, the great grand father of structured dancing.

  • "Ballet originated in the Renaissance court as an outgrowth of court pageantry in Italy, where aristocratic weddings were lavish celebrations. Tutus, ballet slippers and pointe work were not yet used. The choreography was adapted from court dance steps. Performers dressed in fashions of the times. For women that meant formal gowns that covered their legs to the ankle. Early ballet was participatory, with the audience joining the dance towards the end."

On this tour although very new and irreverent; here is Bachata... because if you didn't now (Bachata is taking over -Romeo Santos)... if you do not get the joke ask your closest Latin Bachata dancer -SMH XD

  • "Bachata arose in the working class areas of the country. During the 1960s and early 1970s, it was seen as music of the lower class by the Dominican elites, when it was known as "amargue" music. The genre's popularity arose from the late 1980s and early 1990s, when the rhythm began to reach the mainstream media."

For this top 4 list, while is not a dance that I have much knowledge myself off. I understand and can measure the depth of which this rhythm has reached onto several generations of young people from all over the world. I am talking about HipHop

  • " Hip-hop is a genre of music most often characterized by a strong, rhythmic beat and a rapping vocal track. The genre originated in New York City in the 1970s as a cultural exchange among Black, Latino, and Caribbean youth and has grown into one of the most consumed genres of music in the United States."

While I have my favorite I am very much of the ideology that in order to become a good dance you have to learn 1st the one you are in love with. As you become better and more knowledgeable; you need to dabble in the other dance disciplines to become a more rounded dancer. Whichever your path you are into dance meaning that if you look at as a career or if you look at it just for fun; do not let anything stop you into learning this beautiful Art. Here at our studio, we are focused on helping you and others reach their dance goals keeping in mind that our students are part of our Family. If you are ever visiting or living in Palm Beach County, stop by and take a class. Don't forget today to dace a little just to Honor our National Dance Day.
